We have bonds approved!

Heard the following from WCPR today:

"The bonds were passed at the commission meeting on March 10th. It does however take some time to sell the bonds. I would imagine you are looking at sometime in early summer before we will have the funding in house"

While it won't be here for Spring, I think we've got to be happy that it is coming. We've got to remember that this is the govt. we're working with and they can only move as fast as the red tape allows.

We are so excited about the dog park! Eleanor, our black and tan coonhound, loves to play with other dogs. Kudos to the group that is organizing this effort!

I just heard about this today. Our family is very excited about this as we have always used dog parks in the communities that we have lived. To have one just a few minutes away is fantastic for our two schnauzers.

Today, we head down to the Warner dog park which is a 35 minute drive but it is really well designed. We have also used the bark park by Franklin High and the Animal Control Center, but it isn't as nice. I know it was the first off leash park in Tennessee, but there are design flaws that they didn't realize when they created it.

Hope that the planners do a lot of research before starting the design or model this one after the Warner park. Some parks don't have dual gates or the gates are so close together you can't fully open one without getting yourself tangled up in leashes in the small area.

Also have seen some that don't asphalt or concrete between the two gates or for a long stretch going into the park so that the dogs wear a deep muddy rut where they take off as soon as they are off leash.

Some provide bowls of water with a water hose placed on the turf, but the best parks have an automatic waterer or are designed with a faucet and low bowl (again Warner has this) with a concrete slab under it to avoid the mud and ruts again.

Sorry to go on and on with opinions here. But I would love for this to be a great park because we will use it all the time.

Also happy to make a donation if someone can direct me to the right people.

P.S. - you can probably get a fence company to donate the fencing if you let them advertise their company on the outside of the fence. Can probably get PetSmart, local vets, grooming services etc. to make donations for similar fence advertising (like at baseball parks). Crockett Park has done this with their playground. Ok now I'm done.

What is the latest? I noticed that there has not been a blog since March? Can someone update with new information?
